Competition entry in cooperation with 4a Architects Stuttgart and LAP-Consult engineers for the Jahnstadium Berlin at the Mauerpark in Pankow. The concept envisions a light energy cloud for the old stadium to generate a sustainable icon for the city of Berlin.
The new roof construction uses integrated (organic) photovoltaic modules to cover 100% of the required energy demand. Depending on the PV, module type, and area coverage, a plus-energy roof is also possible, which generates additional green energy for the city of Berlin. The organic PV modules (OPV) proposed in the competition are partially transparent, available in various colors and shapes, and extremely light (< 500 g/m2). These OPV modules are embedded within the ETFs cushion construction in a cable net construction as a middle layer and simultaneously serve as glare and sun protection. Thanks to the customizable color and partial transparency of the OPV, the roof can act as a large screen at night by illuminating different pixels of the solar cloud.
